The earth drops away in front of you, a vast golden-green canvas of volcanoes, plains and sky stretching all the way to the horizon, with the wind in your hair and the whole van letting out a collective exhale. Then comes the stop that makes the whole van go quiet: a panoramic viewpoint with the lake sprawled out behind you, framed by hills and endless sky. Step out, take a long breath and strike the pose. This is the photo that makes your friends say, “Where was that?”

Lunch: A quick stop at Delamere Hunger arrives right on schedule. Pull into Delamere for a quick, satisfying lunch to refuel, with the banter getting louder by the minute and the stories from the morning already becoming legend.

Afternoon: The Kinangop route home Then the road lifts you up and into Kinangop, and the air turns cool, misty and serene. Cruise through the famous floriculture belt and the fabled Happy Valley, where flower fields spill colour across the hills like someone upended a painter’s palette. Dairy farms and rolling ridges line the way, and the Aberdares appear in the distance, wrapped in cloud. Roll the windows down, put the playlist back on and let the road do the talking. Then the long, lazy drive home to Nairobi, with sunburnt noses, full camera rolls and a very good reason to book the next one. Drop-off at your hotel in Nairobi by about 1830 hrs.
